Heyyy peoplez! How are ya going? I'm making this journal to talk to you about something
Few weeks ago, I posted a curious looking poll, regarding why people ask for requests.
Here's the results:
Other opinions were "I do not ask requests because it doesn't seem very nice to ask for free stuff" or along those lines.
Cool! Although, the point of the poll was seeing why people would ask requests, because I've been thinking about it since I took requests from different people. All responses were judged from my own understanding and feelings of when I look at requests, not necessary true reasons why people would request me and I'm not saying they should be. I didn't mean to upset any requesters or guilt-blame you guys, I just really wanna know (seeing some of these may have negative connotation). If I offended anyone, I am sorry.
About the poll though, this was actually a trick question.
Only one response in that poll was actually a legitimate good reason for me to take requests,
which is the first one: "I want to see ___ in your style"
I'm very happy with the results, even though with the small response rate, that answer has the most votes.
Of course, this could be a reason tag-along with other ones like the "I want to collect art of ___" and "for my personal project", or even those ones stand alone are pretty good reasons. But I feel like they are more appropriate as commissions.
Like other people, drawing requests take time and effort, and sometimes the content is not what we want to draw, or doesn't feel like drawing or find difficulties in drawing them (Artists, you know when you have art-block or just doesn't want to draw something someone asks you to? yeah). And incorporating requests costs.
At least, with commissions, it makes requests like work. Artists get something in return for their time and effort. And the commissioners get something of worth without questioning.
Now, I'm not saying you couldn't ask requests, the one reason I like taking requests, and happy to do so, is when people appreciate my art, and that's why if your reason for asking requests is "I want to see ___ in your style", I may speak for other artists too, but nothing makes us more happier than people liking our art, especially when everyone has their own art styles and skills. And I know people enjoy seeing their characters/other characters in different art styles too.
Therefore, should anyone ask for a request towards an artist, and their product's art style is not to the your liking, you should not be disappointed or upset or complain about it. If you don't like their art style, or won't be happy when they draw your chosen request, don't request them, simple.
I've been holding back the other two responses (other than "other") because they may feel like "negative" responses. In truth, they are not actually that bad, if you feel that way. Although not the 'preferred' responses, they are not 'wrong'.
"I want to take privilege of getting stuff for free"- I mean, who wouldn't like to get stuff for free? Free things are awesome. We've all been there, done that. However, if you force getting free stuff, it's not technically 'free' any more. Referring back to the things I've said before, free things like requests still costs, it's all up to the person who gives out the 'free stuff' to determine their capacities to give out the 'free stuff'. In short, don't demand free stuff.
The one person who voted that response, I applaud to you for being honest, or you might have voted as an honest joke, that's cool too
Now that last one. I'm really really glad that nobody voted for "I'm not a good artist, I want you to draw what I want to draw"
Seems nobody voted for it, but it is still a possible and plausible reason. It might not be wrong to feel this way, but I will tell you, for those who feel this way, that this statement should not be why you will want to ask for requests.
It's perfectly alright to feel your skills are not up to those with 'higher skill level' but everyone starts somewhere. You learn new things, keep practising, keep developing, and gradually but surely, you'll improve.
All these responses interlink and I understand people may have multiple reasons, so I would not let this poll results judge any future requests. So if you request me, you don't have to state why you request me, I'll still do your requests
I'm not against requests, but I just want to share my opinions on the subject, and hopefully to share the values of art.
Thank you very much for reading!!!
Cheers

If you want to draw something, draw it!
Regardless of your skills, or what you think of your skills. As an artist, as I said before, everyone has their own styles and skill levels. Artists are always improving, developing their skills, some even change styles from time to time. There is no exact criteria of a "good artist", and nobody should be able to draw what you wish to draw yourself as well as you would. Your imaginations are yours only, and it is up to you to mend and fold however you like. No one else would be able to create something exactly like how you would imagine something to be.It's perfectly alright to feel your skills are not up to those with 'higher skill level' but everyone starts somewhere. You learn new things, keep practising, keep developing, and gradually but surely, you'll improve.

Laif vs Art and Hiatus
Hi everyone,
.....
.....am I dead?
The question everyone was possibly asking at one time during the past more than 6 months or so.
And...no, I'm not dead X'D (in which some of you may be thinking PHEW or DANGIT)
What have I been doing this past months, and literally died out of the drawing business for a while, is kinda personal to say, but basically I've been living life to the fullest.
Social life occupies probably 80% of the reasons why I haven't been drawing, 70% was catching up on anime and manga, 60% of that goes to finishing my last year of uni, and like 99% am just OK with just..not drawing. I didn't feel the drive to do so I wa

Heyyy
It's been a while~ and it seems I have not really fulfilled much of the things I mentioned in the last journal hahaha ;w;
Weelll, tbh, I was experiencing various life events and challenges, and they took a lot time out of drawing, or continuing with my plans on drawing.
Anyway, good thing is I am done with my exams and done with my studying (for the year), and is more free to do drawing YAYYYY
What will certainly be happening is, how I've joined more groups:
